Letter to Firefighters on Fire Service Day
Hello? Today is the forty-third Fire Service Day, and I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to all of you who are doing their best at the disaster and emergency scene. When our people are in an emergency, the first thing we look for is 119. You are a watchman who protects the lives and property of the people, no matter what the danger. Thanks to you, we can all live in peace. I’m really grateful and proud. Disasters are becoming more diverse. Unpredictable natural disasters and terrorist threats are increasing. Safety is the basis of quality of life and determines national competitiveness. We must further develop our disaster management system. Above all, precaution is important. We need to check in advance so that at least we do not cause disaster ourselves. In the event of a disaster or accident, we must further strengthen our capacity to minimize damage. I look forward to the Fire Protection Agency, which was launched last year, to play a central role in disaster response. I know your grievances. Firefighters are overwhelmed by the health of their jobs and are often at risk from life. As a president, I am always sorry for your family. We will do our best to improve the treatment of firefighters. We will continue to reinforce firefighter personnel and pay special attention to the modernization of equipment. In particular, we will secure safety measures for fire fighters and compensation systems for accidents. Let’s work together to make Korea the safest country in the world. Once again, congratulations on the 44th Fire Service Day and wish you good health and happiness.
