i came to know students studying at yonsei university while playing football with them in the campus. those were students who had received koica scholarship and were completing a master’s program, jointly developed by yonsei and koica. officials from developing countries can learn about international development, women and development, public policy, fisheries science, agriculture, and bilateral aid programs in republic of korea. they will go back and lay the groundwork for rural development. the ultimate goal of this program is to equip students with the ability to design and implement new policies and programs in the context of national development policies by benchmarking saemaul undong experience. the course is designed to help students develop knowledge of the scientific research methodology needed to solve the various problems that exist in government systems and rural areas.

i proposed a plan to eunkyung, who manages this master’s program, and invited the students to the fire department. they learned about the korea fire services, how to evacuate in case of fire, and how to perform CPR for a cardiac arrest patient. firefighters and students also played soccer games. it allowed us to learn about each other’s cultures and ways of thinking and to expand our horizons. on the day when some of them returned home, I carried their luggage to the bus terminal by car. before that, we ate bulgogi at a beef restaurant.

I came to know students studying at Yonsei University. These were students who received a KOICA scholarship and were completing a master’s program at Yonsei University. Jointly developed by Yonsei University and KOICA, officials from developing countries can learn about international development, women and development, public policy, fisheries science, agriculture, and bilateral aid programs in Korea. Will they go back and lay the groundwork for rural development? The ultimate goal of this program is to equip students with the ability to design and implement new policies and programs in the context of national development policies by benchmarking Korea’s Saemaul Undong experience. I proposed a plan to Hong Eun-kyung, who manages this master’s program, and invited the students to the fire department. They learned about safety at the fire department, how to evacuate in case of fire, and how to perform CPR for a cardiac arrest patient. Fire department staff and students also played soccer games. This time allowed us to learn about each other’s cultures and ways of thinking and to expand our horizons. On the day when some of them returned home, I carried their luggage to the bus terminal by car. Before that, we ate Bulgogi at a beef restaurant (우향정).

Llegué a conocer estudiantes que estudian en la Universidad de Yonsei. Estos eran estudiantes que recibieron una beca KOICA y estaban completando un programa de maestría en la Universidad de Yonsei. Desarrollados conjuntamente por la Universidad de Yonsei y KOICA, los funcionarios de los países en desarrollo pueden aprender sobre desarrollo internacional, mujeres y desarrollo, políticas públicas, ciencia pesquera, agricultura y programas de ayuda bilateral en Corea. ¿Volverán y sentarán las bases para el desarrollo rural? Dikembangkan bersama oleh Universitas Yonsei dan KOICA, para pejabat dari negara-negara berkembang dapat belajar tentang pembangunan internasional, perempuan dan pembangunan, kebijakan publik, ilmu perikanan, pertanian, dan program bantuan bilateral di Korea. Hoengseong Fire Station invited 17 students of Yonsei University Graduate School to the station and Hoengseong Cultural Sports Park on 18th to give disaster psychological education and correct safety awareness and disaster preparedness.

The event is aimed for emotional support and harmonization for foreigners following the fire safety education conducted twice on Nov. 29 and Dec. 4. In order to prevent fires for those who are vulnerable to the disasters during the year-end and New Year holidays, Park Young-min, the head of prevention department, emphasized psychological stability in case of disasters so that they can live a safe and happy life.

Lee Seok-chul, the chief of Hoengseong Fire Station, said, “At the end of the year, we will continue to promote fire safety education to help various safety-vulnerable groups, deliver disaster behavioral guidelines, and present customized psychological support, which we will continuously pursue with Yonsei Univ. ”
